MuddySports has been created to provide individual student athletes with specially tailored programs that incorporate One to One coaching, Sport Psychology, Lifestyle management and Sports Conditioning with a view to developing and improving student athletes technically, tactically, mentally, physically whilst enabling students to manage their sporting and academic lives more effectively with the end product being student athletes that are well adapted to perform at their best in school, club, county and elite level competition. Currently focusing on rugby alone, the plan is to expand into football in the near future The MuddySports programme has been born from the MuddySports team’s own successes and failings on the sports field. For example, correct conditioning is vital to help prevent injury to young players and prepare them for competition in a fast and furious sport. Another major reason for the development of the programme is found at amateur levels of rugby and other team sports, as team coaches will spend on average less than 5 hours per week, either on the training field or at a match with their players. With an average squad size of 12 - 25 players this equates to approximately 12 minutes or less of personal coaching time and guidance for each player, sometimes less with larger squads not allowing athletes adequate coach input and support when learning necessary foundation skills. MuddySports helps to solve this problem and takes the support for each individual to the next level. MuddySports believe by placing a coach and a player in a one to one or in a small group environment, it is the best solution to the problem and guarantees increased one to one time for a player to reap greater benefits of a coaches’ time and knowledge regarding how best to progress All of our student athletes are constantly challenged and empowered to make their own decisions and problem solve to enhance their learning through out all aspects of the training. Our coaching team has gained experiences coaching and playing within the RFU, Premiership and National clubs, and specialises in coaching and developing young players in Primary schools, Secondary schools, Colleges, Universities and Clubs. MuddySports Mentoring Program Step 1 FREE meet session - A member of our staff will meet with the athlete and his or her parents to explain more about the program, the coaches’ role and to answer any questions a client may have. The coach will require a weekly timetable and also a season program of sports fixtures, events and training. The coach will then make a time to observe the athlete playing and training, followed up by a 1 hour assessment of an athlete abilities’ using tried and trusted measurement drills and activities. Step 2 – From the assessments and collection of data via observation and interview the coach will compile an athlete profiling document and a personalised 10 week development program built around goal setting agreed upon by both the coach and the athlete. Step 3 – An interview regarding sports psychology and also a physical assessment will be undertaken to develop a conditioning and psychological profile development plan. Step 4 – The execution of the Development Program over an initial 10 week period via individual and group sessions covering all aspects of the program – Physical, Technical, Tactical and Psychological development. The mentor coach will make continual assessments and final evaluation at the end of the ten week block. It is recommended that a mentoring program is undertaken over at least a year, and beyond to gain maximal results for the athlete. A number of our clients have decided to do just this, having realised the benefits of MuddySports Mentoring program. We do understand such a time commitment comes at a cost for parents, schools and clubs thus we are very flexible with timing and visits to make our program fluid, efficient and cost effective for our clients. Supporting a young player with aspirations to succeed in a highly competitive professional environment is about providing a well rounded, holistic athlete lifestyle support programme. Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) is not a training programme; it is a philosophy that encompasses periodisation as part of an overall plan, over 10 years or more to successfully develop an elite athlete. Moreover, the type of training must also be periodic, progressive and systematic so that optimum development will occur. This means well-planned training, competition and recovery phases run alongside well rounded management of an athlete's lifestyle. At the beginning, an LTAD model was put forward by LTAD pioneer, Balyi, which has developed over recent years to encompass 6 areas. The FUNdamentals, Training to Train, Training to Compete, Training to Win and Retaining. Fundamentals - Build overall motor skills. Learning to Train - Learning all fundamental sports skills. Training to Train - Build the engine and consolidate sport-specific skills. Training to Compete - Fine-tune the engine, skills and performance. Training to Win - Maximise performance, skills and engine. Retaining - Adjustment, retain athletes for coaching and administration The MuddySports team recognises that the sooner a young player develops positive life habits, executes effective conditioning practice and performs quality skills, the better the chance he or she has of becoming a successful athlete. It must be remembered though that any sportsman who focuses on their dream at such a young age must be aware that there are no guarantees for success in their chosen future career path, therefore I hope you agree with our standing that good education is of paramount importance.
